week 8 journal

After completing this week’s Practicum Experience, reflect on a patient with a known history of a renal disorder. Describe the patient’s personal and medical history, drug therapy and treatments, and follow-up care. If you did not evaluate a patient with this background during the last 8 weeks, you may select a related case study from a reputable source or reflect on previous clinical experiences.

1.Imagine that a family friend or colleague has just been diagnosed with cancer. Explain how the American Cancer Society might provide education and support. What ACS services would you recommend and why?

The American Cancer Society website is a great resource to start with.  The website also has a helpline number if you are in need of speaking to someone.  You can also utilize the site to find local cancer centers that can help with questions and information you may be looking for.  We have several centers here in Arizona that specialize in oncology that have recently helped my family members in finding out about treatment and quality of life.  It was extremely beneficial for them in order to assist them in making future decisions.  I’ve also lost my aunt to colon cancer when I was very young, she was only 36 years old.  She was so young and naïve about serious health signs and symptoms that she didn’t let anyone know what was going on until it was very late.  By the time she sought out healthcare, the cancer had metastasized.

2.According to statistics published by the American Cancer Society, there will be an estimated 1.5 million new cancer cases diagnosed each year over the next decade. What factors contribute to the yearly incidence and mortality rates of various cancers in Americans? What changes in policy and practice are most likely to affect these figures over time?

Factors that contribute to yearly incidence and mortality rates of various cancers are tobacco use, sun exposure, diet and exercise, and environmental exposures (American Cancer Society [ACS], 2017). In the small mining town in which I was raised, there was much controversy involving the pollutants from the mine and it’s relation to multiple health concerns of people that lived there. The toxic air pollutants, are those pollutants that are known or suspected to cause cancer or other serious health effects, such as reproductive effects or birth defects, or adverse environmental effects. This means that people exposed to toxic air pollutants at sufficient concentrations and durations may have an increased chance of getting cancer or experiencing other serious health effects, such as damage to the immune system or neurological, reproductive, developmental, or respiratory problems.

Long-term inhalation exposure to inorganic arsenic is associated with irritation of the skin and mucous membranes and effects in the brain and nervous system and has been strongly associated with lung cancer. Exposure to lead (inhalation or oral) can cause effects on the blood, as well as the nervous, immune, renal, and cardiovascular systems, and early childhood and prenatal exposures are associated with slowed cognitive development, learning deficits, and other effects (United States Environmental Protection Agency. [EPA], 2017).

3.Select a research program from among those funded by the American Cancer Society. Describe the program and discuss what impact the research will have on the prevention or treatment of cancer.

The American Cancer Society’s global program aims to eliminate cancer as a major health problem worldwide through programs that support local cancer organizations, hospitals and government ministries in their efforts to increase awareness about cancer prevention, international cancer advocacy and tobacco control.

Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon is a leading public-private partnership aimed at catalyzing the global community to reduce deaths from cervical and breast cancer in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America by raising awareness of these diseases and increasing access to quality services to detect and treat them. ACS and PRRR have joint priorities focused on women’s cancer advocacy and planning activities in Ethiopia and Tanzania (ACS, 2017).

APA Paper Help

Need help with 750 word paper, APA style on Magnet Status: What Does it Mean for Hospitals? . Need at least 4 references. All references must be no older than 5 years old.

You are the senior operations manager for a mid-sized insurance company. One of your smaller competitors (also an insurance company) has been hit hard due to many claims from a recent major storm. The company has also made some bad investments and is in financial trouble. Your boss has called you in to tell you that they plan on buying out this firm and integrating their business, and he needs you to develop the internal executive proposal that outlines a plan for integrating the smaller company into your current company’s current organizational model. Your job is to come up with an organizational plan to create a smooth merger of the two companies. From start to finish, develop a proposal ‘for internal use only’ that explains how the company should proceed.

Your boss tells you that the main goal of your proposal is to minimize behavioral resistance to change at both companies, to include clients, leadership, and subordinates. Include recommendations, such as activities, communications, and corporate meetings/events, in each related area of organizational behavior that will help with this merger. Be sure to cite theories from your textbook and at least three peer-reviewed, scholarly articles written in the organizational behavior field within the last three to five years to support your proposed ideas. Your paper should consist of a minimum of two pages. Please be sure to cite all references, including your textbook, in proper APA format.

Be sure to cover each of the following content areas:

 Improving Perceptions

 Work-Related Stress

 Employee Motivation

 Rational Choice Paradigm

 Team Processes

 Channels Of Communication

 Organizational Culture And Power

Discussion – Week 2

Nursing Informatics Competencies

Today’s fast-paced health care environment demands nurses to be skilled not only in their clinical practice or specialty area but in the use of technology tools that improve practice and lead to better patient care. Basic and advanced technology competencies are required and expected as technology increasingly touches and changes the job of every nurse. Numerous organizations, including the American Nurses Association (ANA), the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), and Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), have developed nurse-specific technology competencies. The challenge for nurses is to identify both needs and training opportunities.

In this Discussion, you identify the role informatics plays in your professional responsibilities. You pinpoint personal gaps in skills and knowledge and then develop a plan for self-improvement.

To prepare:

  • Review Nursing Informatics: Scope and Standards of Practice in this week’s Learning Resources, focusing on the different functional areas it describes. Consider which areas relate to your current nursing responsibilities or to a position you held in the past. For this Discussion, identify one or two of the most relevant functional areas.
  • Review the list of competencies recommended by the TIGER Initiative. Identify at least one skill in each of the main areas (basic computer competencies, information literacy competencies, and information management competencies) that is pertinent to your functional area(s) and in which you need to strengthen your abilities. Consider how you could improve your skills in these areas and the resources within your organization that might provide training and support.

By Day 3

Post the key functional area(s) of nursing informatics relevant to your current position or to a position you recently held, and briefly describe why this area(s) is relevant. Identify the TIGER competencies you selected as essential to your functional area(s) in which you need improvement. Describe why these competencies are necessary and outline a plan for developing these competencies. Include any resources that are available to you within your organization and the ways you might access those resources. Assess how developing nursing informatics competencies would increase your effectiveness as a nurse.

Biolog Experiment Lab Proposal

Please write a two-paragraph Biology experiment proposal including the following information.  Descriptions of your materials and methods. Describe your different variables (independent and dependent), your controls (positive and negative), controlling for outside variables (having plants in the same location, getting equal water, etc.), your proposed methods/protocols, replication (if possible) and materials you will need from me (reagents, known acids and bases, etc.). I should be able to conduct an experiment from this proposal.  The information, and details of the experiment and what the proposal should entail are below.  Thanks

Plant Nutrients Experiment

Hypothesis:  Changing the nutrient levels of plants will affect the

overall size, color, and leaf size of plants.

Materials:        5 plants (pea plants?)

Miracle grow  (has even N, P, K levels)

                        Ammonium Sulfate (for nitrogen)

                        Super phosphate (for phosphorus)

                        Muriate of Potash (for potassium)

Procedure: Have 2 controls, one using miracle grow and another using

regular soil.  One plant treated with ammonium sulfate, one with super

phosphate and another with muriate of potash.  Give plants same dosage of

its nutrient and record results weekly.

Independent variables: variables are different nutrients.

Dependent Variables:  Measurement of growth, observation of color and size

of leaves/flowers

Controls:  same amount of sunlight and water.  Given same amount of

whichever nutrient plant is assigned.  All outside conditions for plants

will be the same.

    Re:Topic 1 DQ 1

Scientism is based on truth and evidence and accepted universally but religion is beliefs based on cultural backgrounds of any individual. People can be Christian, Muslim, Hindus or atheistic. Any issue can be right for one religion but same issue might consider wrong for other religion. For example marrying within families (cousin) is not acceptable in Hindus society while Muslim society marrying with cousins is acceptable.  There is still more issues that science is not still able to answer. The dilemmas between science and religion in health care setting is costly as it is related to life and death matter. Both aspects goes side by side.

I believe having religious belief feed patient with healing power along with scientifically approved treatment. Respecting and acknowledging patient’s culture /religion help in maintaining their dignity.

However people have their own point of view toward science and religion. Religion and science are often seen as opposite poles in our understanding of the world. And yet while religion and science are in some sense polar opposites, there is also much in common between them. Both are carefully crafted systems of thought, concerned with establishing the real truth behind the world we see in experience. (Lehar, S.
